How to answer job interview question "What motivates you"?

During job interviews, there is a high chance that you will end up being asked to answer the question, "What motivates you"? This is a very common question and most of the time would always have this on their list of questions. Yes, it might sound a very easy question to answer but we also have to remember that these recruiters or employers have already asked tons of applicants and heard a lot of similar answers. In this regard, we have to make sure that we will give them ideas or answers that are unique. But how are we going to that? Always keep in mind that even though this question can be answered very easily, we must provide a cohesive answer to stand out. Recruiters are tired of hearing the common ones. I highly recommend that you think of your motivations out of a professional setting to be a little bit different from the rest. Your personal goals can also be a good source of motivation as long as you present it in a distinct and structured way.

For you to have an idea on how to form a unique answer, I have prepared some sample answers for you and steps on how to come up with a structured answer that you will find in the video below. You can also visit our YouTube channel Virtual Assistant (VA) Diaries for more tips on how to answer different job interview questions such as Describe yourself using a FORD technique, Why should we hire you and What are your strengths and weaknesses. How to answer job interview question "Describe yourself" or Tell me about yourself

Job interviews most probably is the most nerve wrecking stage of the hiring process. Most often when we go to our interviews we feel the tension and sometimes cause mental blocks which prevents us from forming cohesive answers. In todays blog, I will share a technique that will allow us to construct a very nice answer to this question, "Describe yourself" or "Tell me about yourself". This technique might have been already know by others but for those who haven't been yet, let me introduce to you the FORD technique. It is actually an acronym to for us to recall it easily. Here is what each letter stands for:

F - Family
O - Occupation
R - Recreation
D - Dreams

When we answer the "Describe yourself" question, it is advisable that you start by sharing a little bit of yourself and draw some ideas from your family back ground or friends. Anything that has something to do about your personal life will fall under the F (Family) category. For the O (Occupation), briefly discuss your most recent work experience. Should the interviewer asks follow up questions, then discuss freely.
On your R (Recreation), this is where you can open up your hobbies and things that you do during your free time. Lastly, D (Dreams), take this as your opportunity to share your aspirations and goals in life whether it's personal or professional aspects.

This time, I would like to share some sample answers on how to form a structured answer using and applying the FORD technique. You will have better grasp of this technique by hearing how it is delivered so I have prepared here a video for you to watch. This is also uploaded on our YouTube channel Virtual Assistant (VA) Diaries so feel free to LIKE and SUBSCRIBE for more videos.
